Story

Rebekah took part in her first event on Sunday 14th June - a 5k Fun Run at Stanwick Lakes. She managed to complete it in just under an hour with the help of lots of family and friends who came along to support her on the day.

Her next event is on Saturday 25th July at Ferry Meadows. This is a BROW event - Bike, Run or Walk. Rebekah doesn't feel able to run the course again so this time will be on a tandem with her Personal Trainer David Mackman. Please put your name down to join in or contact me if you want to arrange an event of your own. For more on Rebekah's story see below.....

In 1994 when I was 2 years old me and my mum had a car accident five days before Christmas. I had a severe head injury and I was not expected to survive. My mum was later told that I had suffered 2 severe bleeds in my brain, and that in the ambulance on the way to hospital my heart had stopped beating twice...

It was two local GP's volunteering for MAGPAS that day that came out to the accident and saved my life.. twice!!

I came out of intensive care on Christmas Day 1994, and spent another 2 months in hospital getting better. I had to learn how to do everything all over again. Talking, walking, eating...

20 years on, I am now 23 and I live an independant life and am proud to say I also have my very own job volunteering at a playgroup. I would not have been able to achieve any of this without the help of my family, friends and two amazing support workers, and of course the two incredible Doctors that came to help me that day.

All MAGPAS staff are volunteers, and without their help I would not be here today. So I want to do this fun run to help raise money so that they can continue doing excellent work in helping people like me.

The year before my accident, 2 local school girls were  also in an accident in the same area, and very sadly one of the young girls did not survive. At her funeral, her family very kindly and selflessly requested donations to be given to the MAGPAS charity instead of bringing flowers to the funeral.

The money that was raised was used to buy a piece of life saving equipment. It was this same piece of equipment that was used to save my life so fund raising really does make a difference.

I would be really, really happy if you could give some money to suport me in this run. It would also be amazing if any of you could come along on the day to support me. I'm not a very good runner but will be doing my very best to complete the 5k.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and for any donation you may be able to make.
