Story

The Jumpcut Online team are raising some money for various charities with different movie marathons!

On Saturday 18th May I will be spending 24 hours watching as many films that are directed by women as possible in order to raise money for Alzheimer's Society.

I will be letting people choose what I watch via Twitter polls and the films for each poll will be picked randomly from this list of films. This list is made up of films from Netflix, Amazon Prime, BFI Player and my DVD collection and they will all be new to me. I'll be using the hashtag #ReelWomenMarathon so you can keep up with my sleep-deprived thoughts on the films I watch.

How to get involved

  • Any and all donations are much appreciated but if you donate £10 you can choose two of the films from the list to battle it out in a Twitter poll - the winner is watched
  • If you donate over £15 you can choose a film for me to watch from the list

For me, Alzheimer's or dementia has affected both of my grandparents. My granddad died of vascular dementia nearly eleven years ago after living with dementia for six years. My gran was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014 and while she still lives in her own home, my mum (her daughter) is her primary carer. My gran's Alzheimer's is completely different from my granddad's, showing how complex this disease is.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

What I'll be watching:

My first Twitter poll of competing films will be Paris Is Burning (1980, dir. Jennie Livingstone) vs Freak Show (2017 dir. Trudie Styler) as chosen by Darryl

Jan picked Swept From the Sea (1998 dir. Beeban Kidron) and Albion: The Enchanted Stallion (2016 dir. Castille Landon) for me to watch.

My second Twitter poll of competing films will be I Feel Pretty (2018 dir. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein) vs The Breadwinner (2017 dir. Nora Twomey) as chosen by Claire.

My third Twitter poll of competing films will be I Feel Pretty (2018 dir. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein) vs You Were Never Really Here (2017 dir. Lynne Ramsay) as chosen by Sam.
