Story

Tomorrow see's me attempt the infamous Sufferfest Knighthood to raise money for the Fortunes Well Cancer Trust.

What is the Sufferfest Knighthood? Well, for those not aware of the Sufferfest (shame on you), in their own words - no matter what aspect of your fitness you want to improve, we have a Sufferfest for that. Our structured workouts are designed by elite coaches to target everything from climbing to speed, endurance to base, race simulation to efficiency, time trialling to triathlon. So many ways to Suffer, so little time.
So what is the Knighthood? The undertaking seems  simple: ride ten Sufferfest videos back-to-back, on a single same day, with no more than 10 minutes’ rest between each video. Effectively this is 10+ on a stationary bike (Oh, and I'm making this as hard as it gets by doing it on a Wattbike.  This is a mental challenge as much as a physically one, the fact is this is a hard thing to do.

So why do it? This is the easy bit. I lost..no, the world lost a remarkable lady 18 months ago to a form of blood cancer. The Fortunes Well Cancer Trust work to improve the services to its patients and staff of the Cancer Unit at Dorset County Hospital and elsewhere. They do this by making improvements to the facilities of the Fortuneswell Cancer Ward and Outpatients Chemotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital.Supporting the opportunities for providing treatment, when appropriate, in locations nearer to patients’ homes. Funding projects which help cancer patients in the locality.Providing financial assistance to nurses and medical staff to help them engage in research, study and education to provide better management of patients with cancer. The long-term aim is to further develop the dedicated Cancer Centre in the Dorset County Hospital. Without them I cannot imagine how much more difficult life would have been for Eileen and all her family and friends. The staff were truely humbling and deserve all the assistance they can get.

About the charity

The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust aims to improve the Cancer facilities at Dorset County Hospital, to support training, education and research in cancer management, and to facilitate in any way possible the care and welfare of cancer patients in the locality.
