Story

Thanks for visiting my charity page.

A few who know me may know my personal reason for originally doing this. They will also understand that I never do things by half.... and hence why having never run a marathon before, I decided to run the length of the Chesterfield Canal, apprx 46 miles all in. Fortunately I have a good friend Grady Holmes who kindly (or stupidly) said they would do this with me :)

My personal reason for doing this particular challenge most would say is crazy, but that aside I wanted my efforts to go to good use. I first thought of Parkinsons Society after my father suffered from this. However in the past I've always supported childrens charities, so I felt it would be better to continue. I've had connections with Bluebell Wood before, and know what a wonderful job they do for the children and families and what a huge task they have. I haven't got any children so can only imagine what the families and children themselves must go through. I know if I did, I would stop at nothing for them. So I could think of no better cause than to help those who would love to be able have a better life, like you and I and have a mere fraction of what we all take for granted, including our health and indeed life itself. It really makes me realise what I have and not what I haven't got when I think about this. It is this thought along with my original reason for doing this run that will keep me going and your sponsorship will help to keep me focused. It's a warming feeling to think that just one day out of my life can help others. I wish everybody could do just one thing to help.

So please think of this, dig deep and donate now!!

The original planned date was 28th September last year but this sadly had to be postponed and again in May due to injuries so we're now planning on Saturday 30th August. We start in West Stockwith (at the Trent) and finish in Chesterfield at the start of the canal. I don't know how long this will actully take but we're planning on around 10 hours (or hopefully under) and will be heading off at around  8:00 am. We should be at the pub at the finish (Lockeepers Inn, Tapton) by around....teatime ish all being well and no doubt we'll be there for a beer or two...!! So feel free to come along as we celebrate and collapse...

Oh and any mobility scooters that can be loaned to us for the week after would be appreciated :)

Keep an eye on this page for updates nearer the time to confirm date/times/progress, etc.
