Story

Anybody that really knows me will know I have two main passions in life, Motorsport and Farming (tractors!).  One of these things I am lucky enough to call my job, the other is something I still wish I could do more often.

At the age of around 11 I visited my Uncle's farm in North Devon for a week, the aim was to help with the lambing, and more likely to give my parents a break from me :) - from that week on, I ended up going to the farm every day I possibly could.  I didnt stop going until I was.... well, I havent stopped going.... it's just a bit more difficult these days.

Last week, my Uncles father passed away.  He had bought the farm, called Damage Barton, on the beautiful North Devon coastline in 1962.  Ever since I had known him, his whole life was devoted to that farm, and Agriculture in general.  Peter taught me a lot about farming, how to deal with any problems that farming might throw at you, how to enjoy farming and how to respect the countryside.  He was always fighting for farmers in general and trying to make things better for the next generations.

His enthusiasm and love for the industry will never be forgotten, or how he cared for the 550 acres he farmed in order to allow him to pass it on to the next generations.  Peter and his wife Mary also started a campsite which overlooked the lovely coastline, and Peter's ability to turn his hand to anything meant that this business is still highly successful to this day.

In November last year I had decided to push myself to a level of fitness I have not had to reach before, and in one month I will be attempting to complete my first ironman, which is basically a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and then the small finale of a 26 mile run... I wasn't planning on running for charity, just myself, but as Peter wants to continue the way he led his life and donate any money raised in his memory to a fantastic Agricultural charity, then I couldnt say no in trying to help.

The R.A.B.I is a grant-making charity which helps farming people of all ages if they are in financial difficulty. Support is confidential and includes one-off or regular payments, funding for things like essential household items, disability equipment, relief farm staff, home-help and care costs.

My passion for farming will always be a huge part of my life, and a couple of pounds from anyone who wants to donate will mean a lot to me and all the family members involved with Peter.  Thank you for your time reading, and any donations you may wish to make.
