Story

I was part paralysed in a traumatic accident in 2007 at the age of fifty. Facing a life in a wheelchair, I chose to fight preconceived ideas of just what was possible for someone who could feel nothing below their waist. There begins my story and the beginning of an extraordinary new life.

Over the last ten years I has overcome many physical and mental barriers with the help from SIA: Spinal Injuries Association, I have completed many events others believed impossible; these events have included Hand cycling from London to Brighton, 24 hour endurance race at Thurxton Motor circuit in which I qualified for race across America in 2018, Ride100, hand cycled from Scotland to London 600 miles in November 2014, raising £12000 for charity, and i have hand-cycled in many charity rides all over the UK in the last two years.

In July 2015 I Appeared on ITV Surprise Surprise TV Show, the show was supported by Sunrise Medical who donated 7 hand-cycles to my children’s disabled hand-cycling club.

Just one of these challenges is more than most of us will attempt in our lifetime. Yet I currently have my sights set on a new challenge – 02nd July 2017 I will be hand cycling the coastline of the England 2,500 miles in 27 days, raising funds for my favorite charities. I will finish this challenge on the 28th July 2017 where I will be greeted at number 10 Downing Street.

Why am I doing this?

My aim is to demonstrate what a disabled hand cyclist can do, to raise awareness of hand cycling as a sport here in the UK and to raise awareness through education in our schools of our dying oceans due to pollution and climate change.

Along the way I will be gathering 100,000 signatures from the British public and schools in support of saving our oceans I will hand this petition into number 10 Downing Street on the 30th July 2017. I will also be raising Funds for three of my favourite charities (SIA. Spinal injury association) (Sea Shepherds) and (The Cycling Project)

This is a tough challenge but a fabulous way to see the country and coastline, and one of the most rewarding things I will ever do!

The cycling is mainly undulating over rolling countryside, though there are some longer, tougher climbs. Distances are fairly long, averaging approx. 85 miles per day, with a shorter day at the end. I will cycle approximately 2,500 miles on this trip overall. This is not a ride which any hand-cyclist should attempt without specific training.

I hope to create something special and unique this year and for anyone who wants to join me.
