Story
Between 10th and 14th August, I will be joining a team of representatives for the charity Sue Ryder on a trek in Iceland with the aim of raising money and awareness for the charity.
Sue Ryder provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life-changing diagnosis. They provide expert medical care and emotional support to be a safety net for patients and their loved ones at the most difficult time of their lives.
The charity deals with conditions such as cancer, heart failure, dementia, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and motor neurone disease, which affect one in every four people. They treat more conditions than any other UK charity in their hospices, neurological care centres and out in the community.
Over the course of three days, we will be walking 58km from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmörk. While relatively short, the trek will be challenging, marked by steep climbs and rough descents as the team traverses Iceland's incredible wilderness with thundering waterfalls, steaming lava fields, plunging fjords and spouting geysers. By undertaking this challenge, I hope to help provide a significant contribution to Sue Ryder by raising money and increasing awareness of the charity, which I have worked with as a volunteer in one of their charity shops for two years.
