Story

Dear Generous Giver - Supporting Children with Special Needs.

This Year I have run The Brighton Marathon (April), The Orpington Marathon (May), The SouthDowns Marathon (June), The Chichester Challenge Marathon (July), Dunstable Downs (Sept), Farnham Pilgrims Way (Sept), Isle of Wight (Oct), Beachy Head (Oct), Maidstone A20 (Nov), Gatliff which was my 1st ULTRA 50k (Nov) with more to come...Watch this space!

Below is a personal account of why I'm supporting this charity.

As many of you know my son Josh has an autistic spectrum condition and attends Newick House Special School of which the Friends Charity helps out with extra funding for specific special needs equipment, school trips, theatre and musician group visits and social development outings, where the children can go out to buy drinks and snacks and learn independent shopping and communication skills. This also helps their development and interaction within society.

Since going to Newick House School, Josh has grown in confidence and his social interaction is improving all the time. The school gives him a great grounding in learning life and communication skills for his adult life. He really enjoys going to school…

Newick House is a special school for pupils with a range of special needs and learning difficulties, including autism, and speech, language and communication difficulties.

The  School aims to provide its pupils with:

A stimulating learning environment where pupils feel safe and secure

A happy place to learn and work

A relevant, broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum

Opportunities to be creative, fit and healthy

Opportunities to be fully involved in a wide range of educational and community settings

The support to develop their own confidence and self esteem

The encouragement to develop respect for themselves, for each other, for their community and for the environment.

The school prepares pupils to gain as much independence as possible at school and in adult life.
