Story

THE CHALLENGE: On 24 August 2015, fourteen members of Teambike are aiming to cycle over the three legendary peaks of the Dolomites in Northern Italy in order to raise money for a specific prostate cancer research project at the University College London Hospital. Starting at Bormio, the cyclists begin with the seriously steep Mortirola (1852 metres) and will go on to the Gavia (2652 metres) before topping out on the Stelvio at 2758 metres before returning to Bormio. The total climbing in one day will be 5397 metres, with the additional challenge of the August heat and the total distance of 143km.

WHY? Last November I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I have been fortunate to receive the benefit of excellent care and treatment at the UCLH Hospital and UCH Cancer Centre which is the direct result of both the NHS and charitable donations that have supported research over many years. Ongoing prostate cancer research is essential in helping to improve diagnoses and treatment. I am hoping that by undertaking our Dolomite Challenge we will raise £5000 for a study investigating the role of imaging in detecting response to treatment of prostate cancer. I can provide more detailed information about the research if you contact me on: roger.mackenzie@outlook.com
