In 2017, I will have been getting my poetry into print for 60 years; my first poem appeared in my school magazine at the ripe old age of 11 years. (I will be 71, December 21 2016.) I will also have been living with prostate cancer for six years since being diagnosed in February 2011. 

Many men will not get checked out for prostate cancer (at 55+) because they are scared. I was scared, too, but the cancer was caught early and is being treated with hormone therapy. My team at the UCH MacMillan Cancer Centre (London WC1) ) are wonderful; so much so that I am still taking my cue from Monty Python and looking on the bright side of life. Apart from hoping to encourage donations to Prostate Cancer UK, I also hope to raise awareness of the condition and encourage men to discuss it with their GP.

I regularly post new and historical poems that link to my general and gay-interest poetry blogs on Google Plus; almost daily, removing poems as I add them so there are never more than 30 poems. (Yes, I am gay. Prostate cancer does not care if a man is gay or straight just as a poem is a poem is a poem regardless of the poet's gender or sexual persuasion.)
