Burgh Island Swim

Sunday 18th September 2016

10.00 am

A beautiful swim around Burgh Island at Bigbury - 130 of us swam clockwise in clear waters with sunshine and calm waves.

Drakes Island Swim

Date: 7th August 2016

Time:09.30

Drakes Island is set within Plymouth Sound and contains derelict military barracks and buildings from the Napoleonic era as well as a colony of little Egrets.

The Drakes Island swim will start from the Archway at the Royal William Yard with the swim to the Island and back around 1.5km in distance.

The swim is 1.5km and across a section of water that can produce strong currents.  So we ask that all those who take part in the Drakes Island swim are strong swimmers and are ready to take on the challenge .

We are able to swim in the stretch of water from the Royal William Yard to Drakes Island by kind permission of the Queens Harbour Master. During the event the swim area will be free of any other water users with the exception of the safety team.

The Chestnut Appeal supports men with prostate cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall. The charity has funded six specialist prostate cancer nurses and brought the latest in technology and treatment to the region. Last year the Chestnut Appeal donated £125,000 to Derriford Hospital to help bring in Robotic Surgery.  And in 2016 we will soon be able to announce the purchase a new piece of kit; The Ultrasound-MRI Fusion for Targeted Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer at a cost of £104,000.  When it arrives, Derriford Hospital will have the most advanced 3D full colour prostate scanner in the South West.
