We started this fundraiser for Rape Crisis by being sponsored to stay sober for 35 days. Over that time we raised £1300, and we've decided to keep the page going so we can keep adding in donations that people make at our shows and events.

This year has seen an unprecedented number of people coming forward to report their experiences of sexual violence – there has been a 50 per cent increase in victims and survivors receiving ongoing support since 2014, while calls to Rape Crisis helplines have risen to 164,000 – an average of 3,000 a week.

Despite this huge demand for services, cuts to government funding mean that centres are increasingly unable to provide the support that is needed. It costs rape crisis centres in England and Wales around £70 million to run existing services and they have a funding gap this year of £10 million. Around 10,000 victims of sexual violence are forced to wait over a year to receive counselling, with many never able to access this support at all. Meanwhile, conviction rates for rape are far lower than other crimes, with only 5.7% of reported rape cases ending in a conviction for the perpetrator.

• Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men are raped in England and Wales alone every year; that's roughly 11 rapes (of adults alone) every hour. These figures include assaults by penetration and attempts.
  

• Nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted in England and Wales each year
