Story
I've been a member of 2 Para for over 10 years and during this time have covered various distances with my kit on (Tabbing). The furthest I can recall is 30 miles, carrying in excess of 80lbs of kit, during a nice wet and cold exercise in Otterburn "character building". During many TAB's I've thought it would be nice to TAB on my own accord, without an officer navigating, turning 30 miles into 40 due to some very suspect dog legs.
I was watching the London Marathon last year and thought that would be the event to do. Seeing a break in what is an busy period for 2 Para, I applied and was successful, at this point I also decided that I would TAB for the charity Support Our Paras. Tabbing the marathon will involve me walking/running 26.2 miles in military fatigues, boots and bergan with 37lb in.
Support Our Paras is a charity that is very close to home for me. Serving as a member of The Parachute Regiment means you are part of an extended family which has a proud tradition of supporting and looking after each other. This ethos I feel is strongly represented by Support Our Paras charity.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read my story and thank you in advance for your support because I'm sure at some point in London I'm going to need it.
Thanks
Ryan
