A couple of months ago, I had the crazy idea to sign up for my first half marathon with some friends and family. Bearing in mind I've never done a 5k, 10k or any kind of marathon before, this will be a big challenge, but not as challenging as it would be for someone with M.E.

Back in 2006 my mum was diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, a chronic neurological condition which affects the nervous and immune systems and at times can cause debilitating pain. We still don't know what caused it, but in those first couple of years M.E. affected my mum in a way I never wish to see again - she was bed-bound for some time, struggled to do simple daily tasks and appeared vacant. However it's not all doom and gloom! Over the years, she's slowly got better, learned to manage her symptoms and even managed to go to uni and become a fully qualified Architect as of last year! 

That's not to say that my mum is fully recovered, because M.E. affects different people differently, and while some people make good progress and may recover, others can remain ill for a number of years. I hope that my mum may recover enough that this illness is a thing of the past, and perhaps one day I'll be able to do this run with her. But in the meantime, I would deeply appreciate any donations towards this charity, so that they can continue to raise awareness, provide support and care for others who suffer with M.E.. And your prayers that I survive 13 miles!
