Story

Support team Saffery Champness in The Great Glencoe Challenge

A team from Saffery Champness’ Inverness and Edinburgh offices are taking on The Great Glencoe Challenge to belatedly mark the milestone of the Inverness office’s 40th anniversary (in 2020) and to raise money for Venture Scotland, which does amazing work to support young people and provide them with outdoor development courses.

On Saturday 1 July 2023 a team of 40 people (team Saffery Champness) will embark on a 26.2 mile (40 plus kilometres) ‘trekathon’ across some of Scotland’s most dramatic terrain, travelling from the heart of Glencoe to the foot of Ben Nevis, ascending 5,000 ft in the process. All in 12 hours.

Coll Murchison MacDonald, head of the Inverness office and of Team Saffery Champness commented:

"As a firm, we have three key corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives: managing our impact on the environment, creating a healthier workplace and supporting young people in the community.

"We wanted a challenge to mark our 40th anniversary of being in Inverness, but we also wanted to give something back to the community and support some of Scotland’s most vulnerable young people. We’ll be aiming to generate as much interest and sponsorship as we can to support Venture Scotland before we embark on our ‘trekathon’ in July. I hope you will support us in our challenge for such a worthy cause.”

About Venture Scotland

Venture Scotland offers young people, who are struggling with life and are aged 16-30, a personal development course based in the outdoors.

The charity’s aim is to empower disadvantaged young people to first recognise their skills and strengths and then achieve their potential and in doing so, turn their lives around and make an active contribution to their local communities.

Each year the charity supports 100 young people aged 16-30 to develop new life skills and build their confidence, improve their mental and physical health and increase their access to employment, training, education and volunteering. They do this by providing a 12-month intensive outdoor-based personal development programme known as “The Journey”.

The programme aims to build trusted relationships and create a safe space for young people to change their own lives, helping them in the acquisition of transferable life skills. Its main goal is to provide a safe, stable and challenging environment enabling personal growth, positive change and achievement to take place.
