This is Tracy, she’s gorgeous isn’t she. In this photo she’s with her beautiful children, Gerorgia, Aimee and Joseph, the person taking the photograph is her wonderful husband Paul.
In December 2015 Tracy lost her gallant fight against cancer, this broke all our hearts.
Tracy was a wonferful person, she was the friend, wife and Mother one would aspire (and in my case often failed) to be.
In December 2017 Tracy would have been 40 and in honour of this Paul and his brilliant family decided to spend the year fund raising for GWH’s Brighter Futures Radiotherapy appeal. Currently there is no radiotherapy facility at GWH, patients (including Tracy) who need this treatment have to make the long and tiring journey to Oxford; Brighter Futures is raising money to build a radiotherapy unit at GWH.
Through sponsored runs, swims, hair cuts, charity auction/dinner/disco, cake sales and even a marathon Paul and co raised a whopping £21000.
I was so proud of Paul, Keith, Matt, Ravi and my Louis when they all came over the finish line of the Bournemouth marathon, it inspired me to get my finger out of my bottom and do something to raise some money for Brighter Futures myself, hence my entry to the 2019 Bath Half.
Now anyone who knows me will know I’m a reluctant runner, I don’t like the cold, I’m not built for speed, I’ve never run further than 6 miles (and that was bloody hard) and apparently I have a rather distinctive running stance that is not dissimilar to a T-Rex (thank you Louis) however I know just how lucky I am to be able to put my trainers on and put one foot in front of the other especially when there are so many others who can’t.
My target isn’t high and that’s because I know that this time of year there’s lots of “sponsor requests” going around, but I’d like to add to Paul’s fantastic figure and make it £21500 he’ll have raised for this brilliant charity, any donation will be greatfully received.
To support me in this challenge Louis is doing the Bath Half too although on the day we may not run together as this T-Rex is way slower than his Tigger impression 😀
