Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I haven't had short hair for 6 years and now it is so long, the only way I can have it cut off is by doing it for worthy causes! In getting my hair chopped off, I hope to help two charities, both of whom work with children and young people.

The hair itself I will donate to the Little Princesses Trust, a worthwhile charity who provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults who have sadly lost their hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses. You may remember Jessie J shaving her head for charity in 2013 - she donated it to the Little Princesses Trust.

In doing so I would love to raise money for Momentum, a local charity focussed on supporting children with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, and their families, in Surrey and South West London. Momentum was founded in 2004 by 3 women, 2 of whom had children affected by cancer. Momentum work in hospitals to enhance facilities by adding colour, play features and other comforts. They also provide a variety of therapies for children affected by cancer, and their siblings, as well as a Momentum Family Friend for as long as they need. Support groups, respite holidays and trips are also at the heart of what they do. In the worst case scenario they support the bereaved.

I am quite attached to my hair although it does get in the way a bit!  It reaches my bottom and from my jaw it measures 20 inches (or around half a metre for those who work in metres and centimetres). The absolute minimum Little Princesses Trust need to make a wig is 7 inches, ideally however they prefer 12 inches.... so I've got plenty of room to play with -  the more money we can raise the shorter I'll go....and if we raise £10,000 I'll get a number 5 (that's right I'll have my head shaved). The chop itself I'm planning for Tuesday 13th March at work.

Serious illnesses like cancer touch all of us and the most recent statistics say that 1 in 2 of us in the UK will have it in our lifetime. It can be heartbreaking to hear of loved ones getting the disease, and even more so when it affects our children.

In writing this JustGiving page I feel more and more proud that I'm going to do this... forget vanity, let's raise some money for a fantastic cause and give a child a wig so she can feel like a princess once again.
