We provide vital respite breaks to disabled people and carers

Story

Imagine you had to spend 365 days a year staring at the same four walls. Or if you had to spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year constantly alert to the needs of your partner, child or loved one at any time of the day…

1 in 4 people in the UK is affected by disability – either they are disabled themselves or they care for someone who is. Revitalise helps thousands of disabled people and carers each year take much needed breaks but there are many thousands more in desperate need of support.

Your support of Revitalise benefits disabled people and carers. Revitalise spends over £8.3 million a year to ensure high quality care for disabled guests at our centres, yet we receive no central government funding. We have to make every penny count and we urgently need the support and generosity of our fundraisers. It might help towards providing nursing care for a disabled person, the purchase of mobility equipment for one of our centres or subsidising the cost of running a specialist Alzheimer’s week.

  • Revitalise cater for over 150 different disabilities including cerebral palsy, Alzheimer’s disease and MS.
  • Over 3 in 5 people in the UK will become carers at some point in their lives and provide unpaid care and support to ill, frail or disabled friends or family members. We help carers take a break from the stresses and difficulties of their everyday lives.

Your sponsorship can help in so many ways. It might help towards providing nursing care for a disabled person, the purchase of mobility equipment for one of our Centres or subsidising the cost of running a specialist Alzheimer’s week.

One of our centres in the North West is Sandpipers, where 3 of the runners work to support our Guests with their holidays.  Despite not being runners, we are going to run, walk, crawl the Great North Run (half marathon of 13.1 miles) on Sunday 10th September to raise money for Revitalise and ANY sponsorship would be very much appreciated and will go to support the great work of this charity.

Revitalise believe that disabled people should have the same rights, freedoms, responsibilities and quality of life as those without disabilities.

Revitalise
is a national charity and the the largest provider of respite holidays for disabled people in the UK.  By combining expert 24-hour nurse-led care with imaginative excursions and great live entertainment, they give our guests something truly unique – a break that feels like a proper holiday.  Revitalise has been providing short breaks for disabled people and carers in the UK since 1963, with 24-hour nursing care on-call and personal support, at three accessible centres in Essex, Southampton and Southport. They offer a wide range of themed weeks incorporating accessible excursions, activities and entertainments. Volunteers complement the work of the centres’ staff by providing guests with companionship and support. They also run breaks especially for couples coping with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Patron of Revitalise is Samantha Cameron and number Dame Judi Dench, Dame Esther Rantzen and Arthur Smith among their Vice Presidents.
