Story

Having completed Cycle Brazil in October 2017 I felt completely overwhelmed by the support and 'togetherness' of ALL the ladies involved...the participants, the organisers, the medics, everyone who joined in. The amount of money raised for these three charities was immense, over £250,000 from our group alone.

There were days filled with laughter and days filled with tears, as we pushed and pushed our little legs (mine at least - others were taller than me, not hard!) up all those hills on a daily basis... I realised then that I should have made more use of Bremhill in my training ritual!! Note to self - make more use of Bremhill in THIS training schedule!!

So Costa Rica here we come - 360km coast to coast. I believe this is going to be as challenging as Brazil, if not more, as we'll be cycling over 6 days but slightly less mileage per day = just as tough in my opinion.

Women v Cancer supports three amazing women's cancer charities: Breast Cancer Care; Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action. These charities offer a vast range of information and support for women and their families affected by cancer:

Breast Cancer Care bring people together and campaign for improved standards of care. Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is the UK's only charity dedicated to women affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer, offering support 24 hours a day. Nearly every day in the UK nearly 3 women die from cervical cancer. 8 women will be diagnosed, facing an uncertain future. Currently there is a huge concern at the numbers of women not taking the opportunity to have cervical screening. If you know anyone in this position - please encourage them to go - it could be a life saver. Ovarian Cancer Action is dedicated to improving women's chances of survival from ovarian cancer through raising awareness of the disease and its symptoms, and conducting invaluable research. Ovarian cancer is the biggest gynaecological killer and the 5th most common cancer in women in the UK affecting around 6600 women every year. Under 40% of women diagnosed with the disease will live within five years.

We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. We all have either a mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, niece, daughter, daughter-in-law, girlfriend of a son, aunty...any one of whom may have previously been or currently struggling to cope with cancer. The funds we raise are being used in the best possible way to help other women and their families in their time of need.

I received a huge amount of support from family and friends in the build up to my Cycle Brazil challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much once again, and if you are able to contribute in any way at all to these Women v Cancer charities one more time - that would be absolutely fantastic.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, I will be conducting several charity events in the forthcoming months, which I will broadcast on social media - and on my bike I'll be - tally ho!

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again!

Sandra xx
