Story

I should really start by explaining why Teresa and I are going to do the highest possible tandem jump altitude in the UK. A skydive from 15,000ft means almost a full minute of freefall time, more than enough time for a bit of clarity...

When I separated from my husband after 18 years together at the end of March this year, I felt like I was free falling for a while. I've since started to find my feet and focus on the future with the unwavering help and support of my best friends and family. I figured that if I can conquer my greatest fears then being a strong independent mother certainly can't be as scary. Heights has long since been top of that list. Go big or go home, right?

During this time Charlie Rees' work with the Oral Health Foundation, her determination and strength has been a great inspiration. So, when Teresa and I decided to do this, adding to her legacy seemed like a fitting thing to do. And, not least of all because of all the great work they do...

The Oral Health Foundation is the leading national charity working to improve oral health. Their  goal is to improve people’s lives by reducing the harm caused by oral diseases – many of which are entirely preventable.

Established more than 40 years ago, they continue to provide expert, independent and impartial advice on all aspects of oral health to those who need it most.

They also work closely with Government, dental and health professionals, manufacturers, the dental trade, national and local agencies and the public, to achieve our mission of addressing the inequalities which exist in oral health, changing people’s lives for the better.

You see anyone can be affected by mouth cancer. This Cancer is more common in people over 40, particularly men, however research has shown that mouth cancer is becoming more common in younger patients and in women. There are more than 640,000 cases of mouth cancer diagnosed each year worldwide and it is the eleventh most common cancer. There are on average, almost 7,000 new cases of mouth cancer diagnosed in the UK each year.  about it?

Our dentists are missing it through lack of training on what to look for. With your help we can support Oral Health Foundation to keep raising awareness of this type of cancer and equip Dentists with information and vital 'tool kits' so an early diagnosis can be given. This is how we can make a difference and save lives.
