What is the Mont Blanc Challenge?
After much thought and trepidation I have signed up for what is going to be the toughest challenge of my life both mentally and physically, summiting Mont Blanc!!!!

When is the challenge and what does it involve?
On the 17th of June 2016, I will be travelling to Chamonix, were I will meet the expedition team, they will have the mammoth task of training me to deal with the cold, use ice-picks, remain vertical whilst using crampons and avoid tangling myself with ropes.

Post 5 days of climbing and altitude training, I will attempt summiting Mont Blanc the highest mountain in the Alps and the highest peak in Europe outside of the Caucasus range, standing proud at a respectful 4810m. Yikes!!!

I know it may sound like a walk in the park to you, I keep telling myself it will be a breeze however, -27 is not ideal for a lizard like me, nor is sleeping in a small hut with a bunch of strangers. This brings me onto my fear of wilderness toilets ….well what can I say? I clearly am not great at sharing. To complete the picture I am not keen on heights either. (This is no joke!)

Why are you doing this?
Well it is simple; Teenage Cancer Trust in Southampton need our help to continue their amazing work, currently the NHS do not make unique provisions for children going through cancer.

The TCT support children and their families during what must be the biggest challenge of their lives whilst allowing the children to remain being children. Hopefully none of us will have to use their services but for now I feel as a community we can all help support those who may need this vital service.

Why such a difficult challenge?
The truth is i love a challenge, love the internal battle of telling your mind to get over it and get on with it.  I am nervous as never done anything like this and am blessed to have no excuses as I have Tim powering my dreams, albeit whilst muttering; “you are wreck less” under his breath.

What do you hope for?
I hope people reading this page can help Teenage Cancer Trust Southampton raise lots of funds allowing them to continue working their magic on courageous youngsters and their brave families during seriously difficult times.  In my head i have set a rather bonkers target because i feel as a community we can reach it.  A small donation of 50p between a whole load of us adds up and goes a long way.
