We raise funds for cancer care in Pakistan to help save thousands of lives

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. please read until the end. Many of you will know me personally but if you don't then read on.

As most of you know that I love my running and have completed many marathons both home and abroad. What you may not know is that I also love climbing mountains and in the past i have completed the National 3 peaks challenge and also trekked along the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu. Both were very tough in their own way, the 3 peaks for their relentlessness one after the other and Machu Picchu for the wild trek and the 2,430m altitude.

Now I may have bitten off more than I can chew and signed up to the daddy of all challenges.

IMRAN KHAN CANCER APPEAL have officially organised a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal to raise money for the SHAUKAT KHANUM MEMORIAL CANCER HOSPITALS in Lahore and Peshawar. This is the highest mountain in the world standing at 8,848m high and Base Camp is at 5,380m. The height is a very daunting five times higher than Mount Snowdon. Imagine standing outside and looking up and climbing five and a half kilometres.

Mountain climbing is difficult, requires fitness, stamina and determination. We will be trekking for up to 7 hours a day in tough terrain.  All this can be trained for, but what worries me the most is altitude sickness. This can be very serious and we won't know how our bodies will react until we experience it. It's more than twice the height I have ever trekked before. Another worrying thing is Lukla airport. Apparently it's one of the most dangerous airports in the world.

Here's how you can help:

Firstly, by joining us. We have a maximum of 20 places and at the time of writing we have 6 places left. The only equipment needed are good walking boots and some trekking poles. Porters will carry our equipment leaving us with daysacks.

Secondly, if you can't join us then spread the word and hopefully someone else could join us.

Thirdly, if you can make a donation to IKCA through my page that would encourage me and a massive help the charity.

Please sponsor me as much as you can, If you can't donate then please share the page so others can donate. You will still benefit from sharing In'sha'Allah.

Whilst working as an Occupational Therapist on the Oncology & Haematology wards at the Churchill hospital I saw with my own eyes the struggle these patients and families face whilst battling their cancers.  We are so lucky to have such amazing free treatment available for us through the incredible NHS. Our western hospital's have  the most up-to date, top notch equipment and fully trained medical staff. Now imagine a cancer patient in Pakistan and the struggle they would have to go through.

When Imran's mother passed away, he had a vision to build a cancer hospital but many people said it can't be done. Hospital treatment is expensive as it is but cancer treatment is mega expensive. But thanks to people like yourselves here we are 23 years after the first hospital opened in Lahore still going strong Masha'Allah with a second opened in Peshawar and a third being built in Karachi as we speak.

We all want world class facilities in Pakistan and we all want Pakistan to progress but we must also do what we can to keep such facilities once we have them. As Imran himself said "Irada hum ne ker liya, bharosa aap ke jazbay per"

Zakat also accepted (please indicate or let me know)

Thank you.

Forever grateful

Sid
