Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity by running the London Marathon in 2019. I had the privilege of engaging with the Armed Forces of many nations when I worked in Afghanistan. I hugely admired the commitment and cheerfulness of young servicemen and women who risked their lives on behalf of their country. Some of them now need SSAFA’s help, sometimes to mitigate the effects of their service, whether mental or physical. It’s great that in 2018 we commemorated the ending of WW1; but it is even more important that we help the former servicemen and women who need it today.
I have never run a marathon before. And at 62 years old, it is quite a challenge! But SSAFA is a great cause and I’m proud to be able to raise money for the charity.
SSAFA has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. In 2017, their staff and team of volunteers supported over 73,227 people, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts. For every £1 that you donate to SSAFA, 89p will go directly to help their beneficiaries.
