Story

The Sing for Water (Scotland) Choir, is being organised this year by Ali Burns and Rachel Mackenzie.

We've chosen WaterAid because clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene should be a normal part of everyone’s daily life. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives. With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good.

We had an amazing day as the Sing for Water Choir for one big massed-choir performance day on Saturday 15th June 2019

Our performances were outdoors in Edinburgh City Centre with one impressive exception...we started our singing day with a 30min sing through in St Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile at 11a.m. Wow!!

WaterAid is £1488 +$20 +22Eu (and 10 Bahamian cents!) better off, solely as a result of the singing in the city with our Bucketeers doing a great job! People were very generous and there was a lot of money that didn't rattle...

That in itself could provide water to 100 people or give access to a decent toilet for 150 people. A fantastic result.

You can still sponsor/donate funds to the singer/s you know who took part, as they are fundraising independently to add about £40 each to the "bucket shaking takings" raised by our Sing for Water Choir on the day.

Our Singing Prog for the day was:

11 - 11.30 - St Giles' Cathedral, Royal Mile

12 - 12.40ish - Parliament Square, next to St Giles'

13.30 - 14.10ish - National Museum of Scotland, Chamber St, on the steps outside

14.40 - 15.00ish - In the Grassmarket

With clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, children are born healthier. They get the chance to go to school and grow up to become adults. Women and men get to earn a living. Whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be.

To date, Sing for Water events have raised over £1.5 million for WaterAid projects in Burkina Faso, Malawi, Ghana, India, Timor-Leste, Ethiopia and Rwanda.

Thank you for making clean water a normality for more people.
