Story
Ride 100 miles and try and climb the Matterhorn in the same month. Why ?
Because four years ago my wife Nikki had a life saving operation at Moorfields Hospital in London to remove a cancerous melanoma from behind her eye, sacrificing her right eye in the process. It was traumatic but thanks to the staff at Moorfields she has made a great recovery adapting brilliantly to life with just one eye. She has been an inspiration to all of those who love her.
So this is another opportunity to say a big thank you to the nurses and Consultants at Moorfields who were fantastic throughout - supportive, informative and selfless. We could not have asked for more and will be forever grateful.
None of us knows what is round the corner. Every 15 minutes someone in the UK starts to lose their sight.
The Moorfields Eye Charity does magnificent work bringing new and innovative treatments to patients with eye diseases faster than ever before.
We have supported them in the past and plan to so again this summer, with 3 members of the family, (me and two of my sons) taking part in the Ride London 100 at the end of July, joining other cyclists on the streets of London and Surrey.
As preparation for this I am riding the 81 mile Etappe Caledonian in May and, if the stars favour me, by attempting an ascent of the Matterhorn at the beginning of July. Any support that you can give will be gratefully received and will help ensure that Moorfields remain at the forefront of ophthalmic care and research.
