The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race starts in Devizes, Wiltshire, finishing just downstream of Westminster Bridge in central London, opposite the Houses of Parliament. The race has been held annually over the Easter Weekend since 1948.

The race is 125 miles long and has 77 portages. The first 52 miles are along the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading, the next 55 miles are on the River Thames to Teddington. The final 17 mile section is on the tidal portion of the Thames.

The four veteran canoeist are entered into the gruelling four day K1 individual event which is held over the Easter weekend. The canoeists have been training since September and are determined to complete race. Many competitors find the demands of the daily distances challenging and injuries are common place. The support crew are vital to the safe completion of the race, they will follow the competitors providing food, drink and most importantly - encouragement.

We are all keen to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society, we all know of family and friends that have been touched by the condition and hope that any donations made may in some way help in the society's research.
