Young people with a life-changing brain injury find that their way of learning changes and their teachers may not know why or how to help them.  The SHIPS project has been set up to assist such young people in the South West of England and the South of Wales. 

An Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) could
result from a fall, road traffic accident, shaken baby syndrome or other non-accidental injury, but equally it could be from a brain tumour or other disease which has affected the brain. 
Additionally we have pupils in the project with who have had congenital heart defects, epilepsy, strokes, haemorrhages, heart attacks and accidental hangings and drownings.  After an ABI
most young people return to schools where there is no specialist knowledgeabout the social, emotional and educational effects of their injury and howlong they can last. 

We are able to support families and teachers through our website, training programme, conference and school visits.  We also have parent support groups and are able to sign-post to other sources of help.
