Fundraising for Shelter
Story
After a very tough year personally and having to overcome challenges in my life I'd never dreamed, I promised myself 2017 would be the year I give something back and challenge myself to do something I've never done. I want to inspire my nearly 3 year old daughter and show her that in life nothing is impossible regardless what is thrown at you, whilst educating her to understand the importance of giving back and helping others whenever possible.....so here I am!
Why Shelter....? It was an easy choice because homelessness has always been a topic close to my heart and I have dedicated the best part of the last 12 years working to help street homelessness and tackling bad housing. The road to becoming homeless for any of us is only a few pay cheques away....frightening thought! So I would want to know that someone was there to help me if I needed it.
I ask myself everyday why it's okay for any human being to be living in such degrading conditions, just because something unfortunate happened to them? Year on year the numbers of people left sleeping on the streets continues to rise. This is unacceptable and inhumane so this is why I am doing something to help fight this!
On a lighter note, for those of you who know me personally, camping and trekking for 5 days is really not my thing and I know when you read this you'll probably have the best laugh and think I've lost the plot...! I've never done either before and I don't know how I will live without my makeup and hair straighteners on the trek. So if nothing else motivates you, but you want to see me without my creature comforts, (...and I promise to share my pictures) then please donate and help me to raise the money I have pledged to raise for Shelter : )
