Thanks for taking the time to visit Team Clom's JustGiving page.
Centrepoint is a charity that is extremely close to my heart. I became homeless when I was 16 and if it wasn't for charities like Centrepoint I don't think I would be here today - I currently work for Social Services and I am studying part-time to be a teacher. With the help and support received from Centrepoint and charities like these young people are able to get back on their feet from desperate and horrible situations.
My partner, who is the other half of Team Clom (our "Brangelina" name given to us by our friend Joe) works in a unit for homeless youths. He feels just as strongly as myself about the plight of homeless young people and the importance of not just raising the money for the charities but also highlighting the issues by taking part in an event like the Sleep Out.
In case you didn't know, the Sleep Out for Centrepoint is an annual event where people sleep on the streets In London and Sunderland in November! The event has entertainment such as live music and bedtime stories, a hot meal and breakfast. The sleeping area is lined with cardboard and you are given a paper sleeping bag! I know this is nothing like being really homeless but it's an experience everyone should take part in to appreciate how important it is to have a roof over your head.
In 2012, 850 people took part and raised £370,000. This year it is going to be bigger with 1,500 people taking part and hoping to raise £500,000. Previous celebrity particpants include Prince William, Kate Middleton, Sara Cox, Richard Madeley and many more!
