Story

Hello everyone!! Hope you are all well and Happy.

Please could you take 3mins to read this. Many Thanks

Yup Its that time of year year again...when i attempt to lose some weight!! Following on from 2009's
...
Run Fat Dai-Boy Run (£1798.59) Edinburgh Marathon

and last years

Running in the name of (£598.08) Notts to Derby Kilomathon

this years charity challenge will see me complete a Triathlon.
Could i just say a big thankyou to those that suggested ideas for this years event some of which im sure ill do in the future. Having decided to do a triathlon i looked at local and national events. Unlike the Marathon the event seems to attract mainly hardcore triathletes...which i am not!!
So i have decided to do my own event! As its my own challenge i can pick the distance. So ive decided on 1 width swim, 1km cycle to the pub and a brisk jog to the kebab shop to finish...please sponsor me. Ok ok so i realise you cant sponsor me to do something that im so used to!! Instead please would you kindly consider sponsoring me to do a 1.5k swim (60 lengths) followed by a 24 mile bike ride and ending with a 6 mile run back to ludlow. Each phase will be timed and monitored by friends and family who have kindly volunteered to help me. The event will take place on Oct 1st.

The swim will happen at Ludlow swimming pool before i climb aboard the bike and head toward shrewsbury before turning back towards Ludlow the run will begin from Ludlow golf club and finish in town at the church pub. So any people local to Ludlow, Craven Arms and Church Stretton will have pleanty of opportunity to launch things at me along the way!!

For those of you who have been so supportive and generous in the past you will know that my drive and inspiration for doing these events is to raise as much money as possible in memory of my late father Terry Harlow who sadly passed away aged just 54 on May 1st 2008. Now three years after his death and it still seems like yesterday largely due to the fact he occupies so many of my thoughts each day. He was a truly wonderful and generous man and is missed so much by those that knew him. For those who never had the chance to meet him please take my word for it! I know i am not alone in losing a parent and to those of you who have lost a loved one to cancer you will understand why i feel i must do something to help. By doing an event like this i am simply testing myself with the idea that you only live once and well...why not? In the previous 2 years i have supported Cancer Research and SCARF (skin cancer charity). This year i will continue to raise money for SCARF as it was skin cancer that my Father originally suffered with. His loss to me is an emptiness without contemplation and i hope you will support me in this years challenge.

I did look into getting a top new bike but then i occured to me that my Dad had an old bike in the garage. I went to unearth it and despite the fact its in need of some new tyres, chain and tlc i couldnt resist using it for my Dai-athlon as it feels special using something of my Dad's. That too is why i have chosen to do the change over at Ludlow golf club where we played golf together and why i have also chosen to finish the event at The Church pub where we would have a drink after work every Friday. Anyone present at the Church when i finish...the first rounds on me..!!

Most of the photos on here were taken less than 6 months before my Fathers death. Dad originally had skin cancer and was (we all thought) successfully treated. It was only later that he became ill with secondary cancer and died within months...we had no idea this would happen. Please check your moles.

Any donation large or small is welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thankyou very much for taking the time to read this...please think of everyone who you believe can help and spread the word.....Daiboy xx
