Story
Did you know that malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children in Uganda? In fact, Uganda has amongst the highest incidences of malaria in the world; approximately 70,000 to 100,000 children die of the disease annually.
To work towards combating this, Barrow Baptist Church are organising 'The Big Bike Challenge' to raise £2,250 to buy 500 mosquito nets for a town called Bugiri, in the Eastern region of Uganda. We are partnering with Compassion UK who will distribute the nets to those most in need.
There are three teams taking part in 'The Big Bike Challenge'.
(1) Barrow to Barrow - cycling 300 miles over three days (ouch!), from Barrow on Soar to Barrow on Humber, finishing in Barrow in Furness.
(2) The Soar Circular - cycling 50 miles a day for 3 days. Visiting the source of the River Soar, The mouth of the River Soar and a Leicestershire loop.
(3) The River Ride - On Saturday 29th April a group with be cycling from Barrow Upon Soar to Watermead Park, and round the park as many times as they can. A family friendly activity!
Each net costs £4.50, together we can protect 500 children! Please support us!
