October 2018 - Mike Peters (The Alarm), co-founder of Love Hope Strength Foundation leads a trek to the Grand Canyon, Bryce & Zion Canyons and Sedona Creek with Mike providing a music soundtrack.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We will be trekking for five days in the canyons of south west USA in October this year to raise funds for and awareness of the Love Hope Strength Foundation (LHS) co-founded by Mike Peters from The Alarm.  Our passion for music and our awareness of Mike's own story, as well as a love of the American Southwest, inspired us to take up this challenge.  We hope you will be inspired to support us as well as the work of LHS.

The Love Hope Strength Foundations in the USA and UK are committed to giving hope to people living with cancer across the globe. Through its ‘Get On The List’ programme, LHS helps identify marrow donors to match with those in need of a second chance at life. LHS also supports life saving and life changing equipment and special projects aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable people affected by cancer. The LHS mission? To save lives, one concert at a time.

Incredibly, LHS has already delivered over 170,000 people to the international bone marrow donor list. This has resulted in 3,316 direct and potentially life saving matches and 307 people now being given a second chance at life (as of December 1st 2017). Julie and I signed up some years ago at an Alarm gig, and even if you don't feel able to donate we would urge you to Get On The List.

As well as equipping hospitals and community cancer services in the UK and USA with new facilities and equipment, LHS has also already built and supported cancer centres in Tanzania and Nepal there are plans to do lots, lots more. Led by volunteers and supported through partnerships with leading international organisations, LHS provides its supporters with value for money and opportunities to have fun whilst giving back, and it provides those it serves with a lifeline.

All funds raised over the trek costs will help to fund Love Hope Strength’s three grants programmes:

a) International cancer care - offering love, hope and strength to families affected by cancer in underprivileged areas of the world by supporting new equipment, facilities and specialist services in hospitals and in the community (managed in partnership with UICC, www.uicc.org)

b) The Get On The List programme - registering people on the international bone marrow donor list to help save lives (managed in partnership with DKMS,  www.dkms.org)

c) The new equipment programme - changing lives in the UK and US through the provision of state of the art equipment in hospitals and health centres aimed at enhancing the care and treatment people with cancer and their carers receive (managed in partnership with accredited cancer care providers in the USA and the National Health Service in the UK)
