On the 16th June I am doing a skydive. I am wanting to do something crazy in memory of my mum who was unique and one of a kind.

My mum saw 2018 in by being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which was already in her skin, lungs and liver. I learnt this life changing and devastating news  3 days after I got engaged. Cancer is cruel and seeks out the best people, and went on to take my mum only 7 weeks after her diagnosis at the age of 59 years old.

We brought the wedding forwards to the earliest possible date and did everything in our power for mum to be part of this as I couldn't imagine my wedding day without my mum. I got married on the 16th February 2018, my husband made this happen by doing all the preparation. My mum fought bravely to hang on for the wedding and throwing confetti ended up being her last waking memory as she was sadly taken from us only 40 hours later on the 18th February. Some may say we are "lucky" mum made the wedding; I would say it was truly amazing. However, this does not compensate for the pain that I feel every day for my mum, my rock and my best friend. It also doesn't take away my sister's pain knowing her eldest child only had 2 years with Granny and that her expectant child will never get to meet their amazing granny who was one in a million.

I never believed 2018 would start like this, this was mum's year, the year of holidays and parties for her 60th birthday. I feel the hole my mum has left in my heart every day and will do for the rest of my life. I want to do everything possible to channel this pain into a good cause and give recognition for the quality of life that Barnsley Hospice give to the poorliest of people.

Mum was in Barnsley Hospice for 2 weeks before she passed away and we could not have asked for better care. The nurses at Barnsley Hospice are out of this world, they treated my mum with care, compassion and never stopped trying to ensure she was comfortable right until the end. They offered a calm and comfortable environment to support our family and I cannot thank them enough. It was without a doubt Barnsley Hospice who got mum to my wedding.

So please donate anything that you can to help keep such an amazing charity make such a powerful difference to families who are in the hardest of times.
