Story
This cause is close to my heart because as a student at SiTraN I have seen the Amazing Parkinson's research which goes on in Sheffield. Parkinson's is the most common neurodegenerative disorder. It is amazing to think we could have treatments for this awful disease, which, far from being a disease of the elderly or retired as some people think, affects people in the midst of career and parenting too.
I've got 2 challenges - one to gain a new skill and other to lose a bad habit.
The first is to achieve 30 back walkovers in June. I started gymnastics as an adult at university, and am so grateful for the friends, motivation and strength it's given me. Walkovers are something I was just starting to reach before lockdown, but without the supportive gym floor it's been hard to get back into it. I've achieved it just once in my many attempts in my garden, but I will be aiming to do it 30 more times before the end of the month!
My second challenge, giving up instagram, will be much more difficult in a different way, and I've tried before and not managed! But that's exactly why I want to do it for a good cause.
Two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease every hour, that's 18,000 people every year. Causing a huge loss of physical movement and uncontrollable tremors, the disease will affect 145,000 people in the UK alone in 2020. New treatments are needed to stop Parkinson's in its tracks.Your donations will support this important work, helping our researchers to lead the way in developing new treatments for Parkinson's Disease
