The Worlds Big Sleep Out is a one-off charity campaign with the aim to help 1 million people experiencing homelessness around the world through a global programme of Sleep Out events in December 2019.

Story

On December 7th, 2019, we will be hosting our own event - to learn together on a freezing cold night as part of the World's Big Sleepout campaign. For one night, in backyards and iconic locations across the globe, we are joining an expected 50,000 people to sleep out in unison to create the world's largest display of solidarity and support of those experiencing homelessness and displacement. Please donate to our page to help raise the life-saving funds needed to help a target of 1,000,000 homeless and displaced people on our doorstep and throughout the world - who have no other choice but to sleep out every night. FAQ

Where will our sleep out be? Temple Emanuel's big sleep out will happen in our very own backyard.

Who can join our Sleep Out? All temple Emanuel community members and friends are invited to join us in learning about global homelessness and the intersections present in homelessness. We'll have programs for young families (grades ECC - 2nd), students and their parents (5-12th grade), and adults.

Wait, we're really sleeping outside?! In order to make our sleep out accessible to young families, Temple Emanuel's sleep out will host its programs outside but will invite families, students, and adults to sleep on the floors of the Temple classrooms.

Is this event free to attend?
YES! The BSO is open to all community members at no cost. We do ask, however, that you donate any amount you're able to our fundraiser. All of the money donated to this fundraiser will go to Stepping Stones Shelter and international aid to refugees.

What's the schedule of our sleepout?

More detailed program to come, but for now:

SAT, DECEMBER 7:
6PM - 7PM: Welcome from the BSO team and Stepping Stones Shelter
7PM - 7:45: Community dinner
7:45 - 10PM: Programming for all ages, including breakouts for young families, teens, and adults.
10PM - 10:30: Bedtime story
10:30: Settle into sleep in at TE

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8
6:15AM - 6:45AM: Wake up
6:45AM - 7:15: Pack Up
7:15 - 7:50: Breakfast and wrap up

(Note: if you or your student(s) are attending Religious School the following morning, you/they will be able to hang out at TE until religious school begins).

Do I have to stay for the entire sleepout, or all of the programming, to attend? Can I come at the beginning and leave early?
We understand that some folks won't be able to stay for the overnight portion of the event but would like to join us for the learning at one or more programs. You're welcome to come and join us for as long as you're able -- just let us know in the event RSVP.

What should I pack for the sleepout?
- Sleeping bags
- Pillows
- Tents (optional)
- Pajamas
- Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, etc
- Warm clothes
- Blankets
- Canned and packaged food for us to eat at the community bonfire
- A charged cell phone
- A portable charger
- A flashlight

Do I have to sleep over to attend the Sleep Out?
No, you can mark in your RSVP that you only want to come for the programmatic blocks and will not be sleeping over at Temple with us.

If my teen is going, will they be sleeping over unsupervised?
As a parent, you're welcome to join us at the BSO as well. We'll also have 3 staff at the BSO whose only job is to hang out with teens throughout the night.

I can't attend the Sleep Out, but I still want to help. What can I do?
DONATE to this fundraising page and spread the word! THANK YOU!
