Yesterday we heard the very sad news that due to COVID-19 and a profound lack of fundraising this year our CLIC Sargent social worker is no longer going to be funded. As we inch nearer to the end of Zack’s journey will CLIC, this will not effect us so dramatically but the thought of having to start this journey without a CS Social worker is awful. Our social worker helped us fill out medical forms, applied for travel grants for us, was always available to help and put us in touch with other relevant charities to ease the strain of having a child on treatment for cancer. 

Zack was initially diagnosed with a rare type of leukaemia in 2012, he was 2 years old in the same year he achieved remission and by 2013 was back to normal toddler life, sadly 4 years later in 2019 Zack relapsed and 2nd time around he needed a bone marrow transplant. It was gruelling and Zack was incredible. He has had to and is dealing with post transplant complications affecting his skin, gut and heart but takes it all in his stride and CLIC have only made that easier so now he wants to take strides for CLIC. We have spent at least a year or more in CLIC House fully funded by CLIC and their supporters. Zack is going to walk or cycle the distance from our hone in Exeter to CLIC’s home from home in Bristol which is 77miles. After such a long time being poorly Zack’s ability to walk long distances has diminished so this will be no easy task but he is determined so I know he will do it. Due to Zack’s irregular energy levels we have not set an end date to achieve this but Zack hopes to finish this year. We will have regular updates on his progress!
