Fundraising for African Revival

Thank you for visiting my page. I am raising money for a small charity called African Revival via a sponsored bike riding challenge, 500KM in ten days across .
African Revival empowers Zambians to lift themselves out of poverty by providing a range of education opportunities.
When we talk about poverty it is hard for us in a wealthy western country to comprehend the reality of life and premature death for many Zambians but here are a couple of facts to consider. For those who survive birth life expectancy is just 41 years however deaths at birth run at over 20% of live births. Clearly something has to change. It has been shown that by providing simple basic education people will live a longer and better life than those who do not benefit from an education, this lasting life long benefit is why African Revival chose to provide education facilities rather than headline grabbing short term "relief" aid. they further support this with long term management and teacher training. The minimum sponsorship for this event is £3000 and I think you should know where the money goes. £2075 goes to a company called Classic tours that provide all the logistic facilities to make the challenge possible the rest goes directly to African Revival, at least £925. Remember this is a minimum value, it would be great to raise well in excess of this amount so please keep giving even, in fact especially, after the £3000 target is achieved.
So you may ask why would I sponsor someone to basically go on an adventure holiday as opposed to sending the charity the money directly? This is a good question, please remember African Revival choose to raise funds in this way, the challenges they organise provides them with cost effective PR material and the opportunity to enter into these challenges means more people, people like me, get involved in raising money for their projects ultimately resulting a greater revenue for them than if I had not brought them to your attention with this sponsorship request.
Naturally I have personal reasons for wanting to complete this challenge and African Revival are wise to use the word challenge and 500KM in ten days across poor roads, maybe no roads, is certainly that. It may be worth noting four of the ten days are spent in transit to and from leaving only six days to ride the 500KM!
I have been involved in promoting cycling in my own community via a not for profit volunteer run bike workshop where people can “learn to love their bike” i.e. learn to fix it. This cycle riding challenge meets two points of interest for me, cycling of course and providing education and empowerment which is what we aim to achieve in our own small way in our community workshop.
I am also keen to loose that middle age spread which seems so often to overtake the office bound male before its too late!
