Story

On Monday 25th September 2017 the main store for the Oxford based charity ACACIA UK in Abingdon was totally destroyed in a fire after a suspected arson attack.

You can read more details about the attack here

Not only did this store contain a large amount of donated stock, it also
housed an additional stock room and some office space for the
charity, including project archives and accounts.

Action for Children and Communities in Africa (ACACIA UK) works to support children living with disabilities and mental health issues in
Sub-Saharan Africa. They believe that these children have the capacity
and desire to transform their lives, and ACACIA UK exists to give them
the opportunities that they deserve to gain an education, grow and
thrive.

They depend on donations and the income from their 4 Oxfordshire shops to fund their vital works, and the loss of this store, along with an important operational base is going to be hard for their dedicated team to deal with.

It's estimated that the Abingdon store could be out of action for the best
part of a year, during which time they will be losing vital business and income as well as struggling to replace the storage and office space they lost.

The wonderful people of Abingdon have supported this store with
donations and their patronage for many years and that has sadly been
wiped away in one thoughtless act.
Although the staff and volunteers have vowed to restore the shop and carry on with their amazing work, the mindless actions of arsonists will doubtless impact on the lives of many hugely disadvantaged children.

ACACIA needs your help to get back up and running in Abingdon as soon as possible and a few pounds now could make all the difference to how quickly that could be achieved. The target is £3000, but it would be
great to see more. Let's show these vandals that they won't win and
demonstrate how the generosity and kindness of the people of Abingdon and beyond can still make a difference where it counts.

You can read more about the inspiring work that ACACIA UK do on their website at www.acaciauk.org. You can simply contribute to this campaign or you can donate directly to the charity via the details on their website. You can also volunteer to help and fund-raise yourself.

All donations will go directly to ACACIA UK and if you're a UK tax payer you can boost your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you by adding gift aid during the payment process.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your help.
