People living with and after cancer who are more active are known to experience less fatigue, pain, anxiety and depression. Research shows that physical activity following a cancer diagnosis can also reduce the risk of cancer recurrence. However access to exercise classes with specialist trainers, delivered in a safe environment, is currently extremely limited and often unavailable. At Active Against Cancer we hope to change this!
Active Against Cancer is a new and unique health and wellbeing service with exercise at its core. It is delivered by Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and aims to improve experience, wellbeing and treatment outcomes for cancer patients in Harrogate. Active Against Cancer has a specialist team of dedicated physiotherapists and trainers working from their picturesque base at the Harrogate Sports and Fitness Centre. They offer a wide variety of classes, activities and at-home based programmes, so there is something to suit everyone.
