Story

I am looking forward to the challenge of riding my first Ride London Surrey 100 this year. I enjoy cycling, but this will be my first closed road event and the furthest I have cycled in one day.

I am cycling for Epilepsy Action to help raise awareness of living with epilepsy as my wife, Jacqui, has lived with it since she was five. With your help I hope to raise money to help Epilepsy Action make a difference to the lives of people with epilepsy.

Jacqui’s photosensitive epilepsy gave her absence seizures as a young child that singled her out as different at school and then after many years seizure free she suffered a full seizure at 17. At an age when everyone around her was learning to drive, living
with epilepsy restricted her independence and affected her confidence.  Although we are lucky that her epilepsy isn’t severe enough to be a daily issue in our lives, it is still there, never far from our minds. I know the fright of finding someone you love collapsed, face down and fearing you have lost her and it is not something I would wish on anyone. We are a fit and active family who will not let epilepsy take over our lives, but we have to be careful. Some of the work Epilepsy Action does is aimed at educating people on what to do when someone has a seizure as well as how to help those living with epilepsy and we have certainly made use of
their extensive online information.

You can read more about Jacqui's story by following this link:  http://www.frenchvillagediaries.com/2016/03/purple-day-2016-talking-about-epilepsy.html

£10 could give 50 people information about first aid for seizures –
helping people with epilepsy be safe in public. £20 could equip a new volunteer with resources to raise awareness of epilepsy in their local community. £30 could help the Epilepsy Action experts support five people newly diagnosed with epilepsy, providing one-to-one advice when it’s needed most. Thank you.
