Story

Adrian Allen from Newtownards is getting his trainers ready as he gets set to take part in this year’s Belfast City Marathon to support local charity Friends of the Cancer Centre..

Friends of the Cancer Centre, which works to support local cancer patients and their families right across Northern Ireland, is calling on people support Adrian and help raise vital funds to support the charity. Money raised will be put directly into vital projects that make a real and lasting impact on the lives of thousands of people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland.

Adrian will be taking on the full 26.2 mile route around Belfast. Commenting on what inspired him to raise funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre, Adrian said:

“I work for The Tomorrow Lab and through my role as Managing Director I have worked with Friends of the Cancer Centre. I was extremely overwhelmed when I discovered the work that they do within the Cancer Centre in supporting local cancer patients and their families. I was amazed that the charity funds an additional 35 staff in the Cancer Centre and this enables patients to receive such great care.

I decided to take on this challenge to support such a fantastic charity that really does make a difference in supporting local people affected by a cancer diagnosis. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and to know that this local charity does so much, I knew that I had to give my support. I am very excited to take part in the Belfast City marathon and I know that the money I raise will definitely help make that difference.”

Friends of the Cancer Centre, based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, is one of the leading cancer charities in Northern Ireland working to support cancer patients and their families through key projects in the areas of clinical care, patient comforts, and research.  Friends of the Cancer Centre is currently funding 35 additional staff in the Cancer Centre, including doctors, nurses and researchers and the charity is committed to raising at least £5 million over the next three years to fund on-going and new projects which will continue to support local cancer patients.
