As I got reasonably fit preparing for the Marathon in Lebanon back in May I thought I would make the most of that and do the Great North Run, a half-marathon starting in Newcastle. I last did it in 1984...!

Visiting Syrian refugees in Lebanon and previously Iraq, I have seen first hand how children suffer from the ravages of war. I have seen it in their eyes and behaviour but they are still children. From being orphaned to traumatised; from being recruited as child soldiers to missing their education; often unfairly treated by a society who rejects them on the basis of their faith. But we can make a difference. Open Doors works with local partners around the world to help and support children in many practical ways, from Children's Homes in Colombia to trauma counselling in Iraq. From supporting schools for refugees to providing children's bibles-whatever the identified need, Open Doors seeks to help but the needs are always great. Your donation, however much, will help. I hope to raise in excess of £1000..
