Event: London Marathon 2017, on 23 April 2017
We provide emergency support to seafarers to give help and hope for crews worldwide

Story

Hello!

I will be running the 2017 Virgin London Marathon for the Mission to Seafarers because during my time at sea I received and witnessed first hand the amazing support and assistance The Mission supplies in over 200 ports worldwide. This is my first ever marathon and double the distance I have ever previously run!

Since 1856 The Mission has offered emergency assistance, practical support, a friendly welcome, helping unpaid crews, assisting seafarers to get ashore on shore leave, highlighting important issues such as fatigue, raising awareness of piracy and the exploitation of seafarers.

The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support to the 1.5 million crewmen and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat.

They work in over 200 ports caring for seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and beliefs.

Through there global network of Chaplains, Staff and Volunteers they offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to seafarers through ship-visits, Flying Angel seafarers' centres and a range of welfare and emergency support services.

About the charity

Founded in 1856 and funded entirely by voluntary donations, The Mission to Seafarers offers emergency assistance and support to crews around the world. Whether victims of piracy or those shipwrecked or stranded, we’re there for the globe’s merchant seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and beliefs.
