Story

Along with many others from my company - MiddletonMurray - we've decided to get involved in various fundraising activities to support the fantastic cause that Macmillan Cancer Support fight for. After a deep ponder on what to do to help in the best way I can I decided to assemble up a group of people to get involved with a 24 hour gaming marathon for Macmillan Game Heroes 2018 on the 23rd to the 24th of June

Those wanting to tune in - the stream will become active shortly before 11am on Saturday 23rd June: https://www.twitch.tv/shwoople

Even if playing or watching games for 24 hours sounds like hell on Earth, all of the proceeds raised go directly towards supporting those that are affected by cancer - as well as supporting with the medical needs of those directly affected by cancer they also help to support the individuals and families through the social, emotional and practical impact that cancer has on us.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. For the entirety of the 24 hours, we have myself, Christian Turner, Jordan Kirby, Ben Johnson and Laura Boucher who have committed to playing through the entire time - no breaks, no naps, just playing games. We have a variety of games planned for the 24 hours and a bunch of people who are planning on dropping in to join in on a few games. I've included our schedule for the 24 hours below followed by a breakdown of the planned games so far - we've got two free slots either for smaller games that might not last for 3 hours, or for games to be revisited should people want to see more of them! The link for the stream will be below once this has been set up.

  • 11am - 2pm: Magicka
  • 2pm - 5pm: Smite / Smite Hide and Seek
  • 5pm - 8pm: Deceit
  • 8pm - 11pm: SCP Secret Lab
  • 11pm - 2am: Left 4 Dead 2 (versus)
  • 2am - 5am: FREE SLOT
  • 5am - 8am: Castle Crashers
  • 8am - 11am: FREE SLOT

Deceit - Deceit is an action horror game where the aim of the game is to escape an enclosed area with 5 other people. The only problem is that two of the people turn into monsters when the lights turn out. Think wink murder with more gore and lies.

Smite - SMITE is a massive online battle arena game where the Gods from various mythos battle it out to see who will be victorious. So naturally we plan to get them to hide in a forest while others look for them.

Magicka - Magicka is a satirical action adventure game where a bunch of magicians are given the task of stopping an evil sorcerer. Seems simple enough until you throw into the mix the fact that these magicians are not very good at magic and can just as easily kill their friends as their enemies!

SCP Secret Laboratory - SCP Secret Lab is another horror game set in the enormous world of "Secure-Contain-Protect" where all of the worlds horrors that never met the public eye are hidden away and never allowed to see the light of day. Unfortunately this hasn't gone to plan and at least one of these horrors has broken out of containment - players take on the role of either monster, the janitors or the response team sent in to deal with what they find the best way they can.

Left 4 Dead 2 - The Left 4 Dead franchise is one of the "zombie shooter" games that helped to bring zombie games into the mainstream. L4D2 is a classic short adventure game where players have to battle through swathes of zombies and try to stay alive. In the popular versus mode players either get to play as the humans or the zombies.

Castle Crashers - Castle Crashers is the light-hearted satirical 2D adventure hack and slash that has warmed the hearts of casual and hardcore gamers alike. Players need to take on the baddies while trying to save a princess - and sometimes they even beat up each other to decide who gets the princess.
