Brighterway is the charity at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, a community physical and mental health provider, (where I work) which support projects that help to improve the health and wellbeing of patients or staff, funding projects and innovation that isn’t normally funded by the NHS. For example Kingsley ward (Acute Mental Health ward) started a craft group with funds were staff and patients are learning together, supporting and improving mental health wellbeing.
A group of runners including service users and staff are running either 10k or Half marathon to raise money for Brigterway projects, alongside raising awareness around the trust as a healthy workplace which is inclusive and diverse.
My story: During my mid thirties I put on weight as a result of not taking part in any regular exercise. Overtime this began to have an affect on my general mood, so in 2017 I made a conscious decision to change. With the support of my family I found time to go back to the sports I enjoyed as a younger man. In 2018 I completed two sprint triathlons for the first time in my life. I am now looking for new challenges to keep me motivated, moving and happy. This is the first time I will have attempted a half marathon distance so any support is greatly appreciated!
