We care for our patients and their families to provide the individual support they need

Story

This is a solo fundraising walk over five days from Monday September 2nd to Friday September 6th 2019 along the Hadrian's Wall Path from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway, covering a total walking distance of 84 miles.

The fundraising is for the purchase of a new ambulance for St Ann's Hospice at Heald Green. The cost of the ambulance is £40,000 but I am starting out with an initial target of £10,000 towards that total. If the fundraising goes well I will up the target as we go along so please keep on giving!

Your amazing support enables St Ann’s Hospice to provide care to people and their families living with a life-limiting illness in the Greater Manchester community. St Ann's provide a range of free services to patients, carers and their loved ones from three sites as well as supporting patients in their own homes.

A new ambulance at Heald Green would have an amazing impact for inpatients and outpatients, allowing the transportation of patients to and from the hospice so they can access the many crucial services, take them for vital treatments off site such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and take them to visit family at home in a custom-built vehicle.

All the ways a new ambulance would be used are as follows:

Take inpatients to vital appointments, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments

Drive outpatients to and from home, allowing them to access crucial free services including pain and symptom control, complimentary therapies, counselling, lymphedema management and access to help and advice with benefits and financial matters.

It would reduce the amount of time patients need to wait to be taken to or from the hospice, which is crucial when visiting family at home or waiting to access hospice services

The ambulance will allow St Ann's to take patients on trips out.

A BIG thank you to the initial sponsors of the walk:

Welcome To Hadrian's Wall

The wall stretches across the breadth of northern England, from Wallsend and the banks of the river Tyne on the eastern North Sea coast to Bowness-on-Solway and the Irish Sea in the west.

Built by some 15,000 Roman soldiers following the eponymous emperor’s visit to Britain in 122AD, Hadrian's Wall served as the northern frontier of the Roman empire for 300 years. The original wall was 80 Roman miles (73 modern miles) long, with 80 matching milecastles (small forts) and half-a-dozen giant forts that served as armed cities

Named in honour of the emperor who ordered it built, Hadrian's Wall was one of Rome's greatest engineering projects. This enormous 73-mile-long wall was built between AD 122 and 128 to separate Romans and Scottish Picts. Today, the awe-inspiring sections that remain are testament to Roman ambition and tenacity.
