Charity Registration No. 261017

As we approached 2018 I said many times that I wanted to do something to mark the occasion - 10 years since we lost dad. That's a bloody long time and an important milestone.

For ten years I have marked the yearly anniversary by feeling sad and not really knowing what to do with myself or how to feel. This year will be different. This year I want to do something that will make dad proud...

I’m going to do a marathon!

Wait, hold on. I think I can hear dad laughing.

Ok, I’ll level with you. I’m not the kinda girl that runs a marathon, but I am the kinda girl that does a 24 HOUR GAMING MARATHON.

That’s right. This year, on June 29th I will be doing a 24 hour sponsored Game Heroes marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer support. Anyone who knows me well (I’m looking at you; Laura, Claire) will know that this is going to be really difficult for me. As a kid I was always the first to fall asleep at a sleepover and these days I can rarely watch a film without nodding off - I love sleep. That’s why this is perfect for me. I feel like I need to challenge myself and make dad (and myself) proud on this anniversary.

Dad was my gaming hero. He introduced me and my sis to the world of gaming - The Amiga 500+ was our world when we were kids. Monkey Island, DOOM, Giana Sisters, Rainbow Islands - the list goes on. Many hours were spent watching dad play Tomb Raider on the PlayStation, helping find the statues we referred to as ‘crusty poodles’. We were a team!

When I was at university I remember asking dad what game I could get him for his birthday - his response was: ‘Ooh, anything you can shoot the absolute shit out of’ And that’s what brings me here.

Everyone loves someone who has been affected by cancer and personally for me it was a very traumatic experience seeing my dad go through what he did. By sponsoring me you will be helping Macmillan continue their incredible work helping people affected by cancer to live their lives. Every penny helps.

My ever supportive and all round incredible husband Shaun will be by my side for the whole 24 hours gaming along, so by sponsoring me you’re effectively getting a pretty epic 2 for one. Feel free to join us online, on the battlefield, in the crucible, wherever we are.

We’ll post more details about the games we intend to play and when we’ll be playing them a bit closer to the day, once we’ve made a schedule, but for now, thanks for reading and I hope you’ll think about sponsoring me in memory of my lovely dad.
