Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page. The last time I took on a fundraising challenge was back in 2000 when I ran the London Marathon, raising money for Cancer Research UK.

At that time, thankfully non of my close family or friends had been directly affected by Cancer, however this time around things are different.

In mid 2019, my sister (Helen) was diagnosed with stage 4 Bowel Cancer - something which really shook our family.

Just over a year on, and despite set backs Helen has now resumed her fortnightly Chemotherapy sessions.

These 'treatment' days can be some of the darkest, especially in the current climate when family or friends are unable to be alongside her in hospital, due to COVID-19 protocol.

This then led me to think, in a year when large fundraising events have been cancelled and charities struggling for funding - what can I do in some small way to help raise money and awareness for Bowel Cancer UK?

So I have set myself the challenge to cycle from the East coast of England, across to the West coast and then back to the East coast (over 200 miles), in a day (the shortest, darkest day of the year).

I have never taken on something like this before and it will be a huge challenge both physically and mentally...However, if I have just an ounce of the determination and courage my Sister shows in her everyday fight against Bowel Cancer, I'm sure it will get me to the end (at some point)?

I understand times are currently difficult and thanks for reading - hopefully this has raised awareness for Bowel Cancer in itself.
