This March, I will be taking part in 'Exercise Hairpsring' Where Royal Marines Reservists from Scotland will learn to become mountain and cold weather warfare specialists in arctic Norway, along with other forces-friendly employers.
This is arguably one of the most hostile and challenging evnvironments on the planet, as we're talking tempratures of -20C!
A little snapshot of what i'm getting myself in for;
Day 1 Sunday 3rd March
Arrival day
Day 2 Monday 4th March
- Departing for the training area by BV 206 over-snow vehicle
- Demonstations of how to wear and use the clothing and equipment that has been issued.
- Experiencing snow holes and shelters
- Preparing and eating cold weather rations
- Familiarisation with various pieces of Royal Marine Equipment
- The evening will be spent in Norwegian Army 10 man tents.
Day 3 Tuesday 5th March
- Observe ice breaking drills
- Return to camp
- Dinner & Drinks in the Officer's Mess and an exercise debrief.
Day 4 Wednesday 6th March
Departure day
By taking part, I will be able to learn the vital role that members of the Reserve Forces play in the defence of the United Kingdom.
All donations will be donated to Erskine Veteran Hosptial.
