Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. There may have been a little arm twisting involved by me but hey, you've made it on here.

Why am I doing something as insane as running the London Marathon? Given that I am known for running from the cab to the bar type-of-person, I felt that in asking you to sponsor me, I should do something completely insane to be worthy of your donation. Believe me, this is totally outside my comfort zone...my objective is to run, hop, skip, crawl (and probably be dragged) the 26.21 miles of the race and party afterwards!

Why Sarcoma UK? My husband Dave was diagnosed with a soft tissue fibro Sarcoma in January 2005. The impact of this rare illness impacted him hugely but also those who cared deeply for him. This being said, when I am training on these cold winter mornings, I do think to myself, actually it’s not too bad given what Dave endured in trying to meet the challenges he faced - 9 operations, 3 cycles of chemotherapy and numerous rounds of radiotherapy. Dave was a legend for having endured the illness for 11 years and he sadly lost his battle with this illness on the 13th of March 2016.

I was blessed to have had Dave in my life for 31 years, having met him in 1985. I am running the marathon to raise funds for Sarcoma UK to enable them to continue the fantastic work they do and to invest in research, information and support for those affected and their families. We benefitted hugely.

Why the target of £28,000? Dave’s friend Neill Simmons raised just under this amount in 2014 and it continues to be the largest amount raised by a London marathon runner for Sarcoma UK. I am keen to continue Dave’s legacy at the charity so please please dig deep and sponsor me. Every penny counts!

Thanks ever so much.
